Great views along the canal to enjoy a peaceful and insightful walk. The lock visit has a certain interest. It coincides with the route indicated by the Camino de Santiago. Also on the same site is the Frómista Information and Tourism Office. A beautiful canal to cycle or walk beside, as it’s on the Camino Way.
They finished building and reformed during the 12th to 16th centuries, highlighting the works carried out by the II Duke of Alburquerque around the year 1500. Declared a Historic-Artistic Monument in 1931, the walls of Cuéllar occupy a large part of the Historical Complex of the Villa. Its location in the highest part of the municipality provides it with a privileged situation for surveillance and defense. But, apart from its historical, artistic and monumental value, the walls of Cuéllar are a magnificent viewpoint from which to contemplate a town full of history framed in a sea of pine forests. An image that will cost you to forget.
For how cheap it is to enter and also how beautiful the building in general is (it was built as a theological school), you really shouldn't miss it. The cascade of water through the “locks” look lovely from the roadside. An interesting Canal with a series of falls to a lower level. There are barges at the upper level that must be navagatable. Worth a look at. Interesting piece of a past where Castile wanted to have an open to the ocean in Cantabria and a means of transportation Unfortunately, the gates are missing. 6(1747)•4.
Artworks include, among the others, a Raising of the Cross by Francisco del Rincon, I Thirst, and The Way of Calvary Gregorio Fernández, Adoration of the Magi by Alonso Berruguete, Lamentation of Christ by Juan de Juni, Penitent Magdalene by Pedro de Mena or the Holy Sepulchre or passage of the Sleepers Alonso de Rozas. During the Holy Week in Valladolid the museum gives 104 images (distributed in the corresponding pasos) to the processions for the brotherhoods.
The wine museum is fascinating too. Need at least 2 hours to take it all in. Externally a very impressive, imposing building set high up above the town. Sadly the inside has been very sanitised in comparison with all the other Spanish castles we have visited. Walking around it you don't really get any sense of history because internally so much of it is very modern. Also, we paid for a tour which we knew would be in Spanish, but were assured that there would be a summary in English at each point - this didn't happen, and the guide told us she only speaks a little English. Obviously we don't go about with the expectation that English will be either spoken or understood, but it was disappointing to have paid for a tour that we couldn't understand a word of. On one hand they offered us a guided tour in English but the person did only in Spanish when he realized we translated ourselves. Even if that could be a negative point, the guide was attentive and approach to us later to apologize and ask for any questions.
